David Trujillo (he/him/el)

Executive Director

David came to ACLU California Action from the ACLU San Diego – Imperial affiliate.

At SDIC, he served as the Chief Program and Strategy Officer. During his tenure David worked to align the affiliate’s policy efforts with the priorities of impacted communities, structured organizing efforts to emphasize identifying and cultivating the leadership skills of impacted people, created an organizing model centered on community organizing principles and developed programs such as the Equity in Action conference. Many of the innovative programs and structures that David helped to create have served templates for other affiliates as they built out their own organizing programs. Prior to joining ACLU, David worked for Planned Parenthood where he helped pass legislation to improve Californian’s access to health care.

David was born in Tijuana, Mexico and grew up on both sides of the Tijuana-San Diego border. Because of his lived experience as an immigrant, English learner, and first-generation college student from an impoverished community, he is fiercely determined to eradicate barriers to social justice.

Outside of work, David enjoys watching the Padres play, grilling in the backyard and listening to music while enjoying a glass of wine or spirit.
